Marisol Rosales

Consultant, Academic Affairs

Marisol C. Rosales worked for the New York City Public Schools for 30 years in various roles including teacher, athletic director, assistant principal, and principal, as well as in district and central leadership roles.

After serving as the principal of Bedford Stuyvesant Preparatory Academy, Marisol moved to the Department of Education central office to serve as a network leader and three years later, as the executive director of leadership in the Office of Leadership. In 2012, Marisol became the superintendent of Manhattan High Schools overseeing 49 schools. In 2018, Marisol took on the new role of the executive superintendent for Manhattan overseeing 273 schools and seven superintendents. 

  

In 2021, Marisol was named the first-ever Latina Senior Deputy Chancellor for the New York City Department of Education. Marisol realigned educational priority areas, including academic, school planning and development, early childhood education, enrollment, school climate and wellness, and community engagement. Marisol led the reopening of schools after the COVID 19 pandemic and the implementation of Summer Rising. 

  

As the Senior Advisor for the Office of Leadership, Marisol led the NYC Magnet team to acquire 70 million dollars in MSAP grants and built a coherent vision for a network of 37 magnet schools across NYC.  

 

In addition to these roles, Marisol has supported schools and leaders during crises, including leading Manhattan to recovery after Hurricane Sandy and being deployed to Puerto Rico to assist the Secretary of Education reopen schools after Hurricane Maria. 

These days, Marisol works as a consultant for various organizations, including the Leadership Academy and the United States Department of Education. Marisol’s primary focus as a consultant is to develop the capacity of leaders across the country and create systems and structures for innovative, culturally relevant schools and districts.
