Strolling through Meena Bazar you will meet Khalid, a youthful yet hardened businessman working hard to attract customers in the sweltering heat. Khalid’s father died a few years ago, so Khalid quit school and went to work in order to help sustain his family. He works with his uncle in a stall selling biryani, a rice based meal flavored with spices that can sometimes include meat, eggs, fish or vegetables. Khalid lives near Jama Masjid where he, his mother and his four older brothers all live with his uncle’s family. In his free time, Khalid reads books in hopes that doing so will lead to a better future. His mother promises him that when his brothers earn more money, he’ll be able to return to school
